STACKS from WEBKARNAGE

We have built and released 3 Stacks so far. TabStack was our gift to the RapidWeaver community for the end of 2009, and we also released SqueezeBox and SpaceGallery too.

We have many to thank for their help with these, in particular with the TabStack we had the input of 2 great Stacks developers, Joe Workman and Mauricio and beta testing done by many including Ed Brenner from myRapidWeaver, Larry from SupportCasts and Kevin Burns from SymfoniP.

Please now note that TabStack and SqueezeBox come with jQuery v1.4 and are supplied as a DMG (Mac Disk Image). We have found that jQuery v1.4 renders faster than v1.32. If you are using other jQuery stacks, these will still work if jQuery v1.32 has been included by another Stack, or in a theme. Only include jQuery once on a page!

TabStack

Starting out simple, this soon ballooned into a monster after the help from Joe and Mauricio. There were some initial purposeful limitations put in place to keep IE happier, but we went in the end for greater flexibility with greater risk of user error! Our one disappointment with TabStack to date is that it isn't always fully fluid. The content added by the user has a large part to play in whether it can keep it's fluid behaviour.

Please see below for a demo of what TabStack is like when it is fully fluid. We have a Twitter feed and an RSS feed inside the Tabs, all put in using Stacks.

You can download TabStack HERE as a DMG with installation instructions for 2 Stacks, one with flexibility in the titles and one with simple titles in the HUD for more reliable IE compatibility.

SqueezeBox and SpaceGallery

We have separate pages to demonstrate SqueezeBox and SqueezeBox Big, with SpaceGallery below. These are commercial releases, and sell for $5US each (SqueezeBox and SqueezeBox Big come as one purchase) or $8US as a bundle. The bundle is far and away the most popular choice so far.

SqueezeBox and SqueezeBox Big are Accordion style Stacks. The first has from 2 to 7 layers in it, the second from 6 to 21! The size of these are dictated by the initial render size of the largest content tab. I say initial render size, as it works this out before content like BannerZest banners can render to their full size. This is why there is a control for the height in the HUD.

SpaceGallery is a Time Machine style picture gallery Stack.

Both this TabStack and the SqueezeBox can be themed using jQuery's ThemeRoller site. There are 4 theme included with the Stack, and it's relatively easy to change one of those to suit your personal requirements. Font, colours and sizes can all be tweaked.

This beautiful scene was taken in FrankLands Village, Haywards Heath, W. Sussex, England in January 2010.

This was the largest snowfall across the country for a good 30 years! Quite a shock to the system in a country that just isn't prepared for this type of thing.

Any minor updates to these Stacks will not be chargeable updates. We will be uploading some supporting screencasts soon, when we are sure they won't get quick changes. TheTabStacks are FREE Stacks. If you are feeling particularly generous, I won't say no to a donation, but perhaps just buy the Squeezebox to go with it them?!! Please enjoy these Stacks, and let us know how we can make them better.

    Using jQuery Theme Roller

TabStacks and SqueezeBox use jQuery's Theme Roller styling files, but to use your own, you will need to get your hands dirty! A little time on their site and download your theme. Then copy the contents of the folder inside the CSS folder and place them inside one of the tabstack-theme or accstack-theme folders inside the Resources folder in the Stacks to replace what was there to begin with. You can also go into the images folder you just copied and remove the icon images if you wish, they aren't needed. There will be a screencast soon to detail the use of Theme Roller with the TabStack and Squezebox Stacks. I will also be putting up a list of CSS selectors for any extra styling requirements.

    Not getting what you need?

TabLoom has a lot of flexibility and supports Theme Roller settings to change the styling of the tabs and text. It also has many options with regards to things like how the content transitions between tabs. This is beyond our humble Stacks, so if you aren't getting all the power you need, why not try TabLoom and use Pluskit to import it?

Accordion from Yourhead can also be used with Pluskit, and being from a different javascript library, will work/clash with different things than Squeezebox. It is also fully fluid, where Squeezebox stays at the height of the largest content inserted in a sector.
